We recently visited Hertingfordbury Cowper Primary school and had a fantastic day talking to the teachers and the children about Snap Science.
Alison Richards (Head Teacher) and Helen Sizer (Deputy Head) told us how Snap Science has improved the teaching of the science curriculum across the whole school. Alison stated:
“Children absolutely love it, [and] science has come alive. The standards have certainly gone up. [I’m] really thrilled as a head teacher for what it has done right the way across the school. Above all it has given the teachers confidence.”

Snap Science is designed to be creative and hands on, encouraging the children to learn through experimentation and enquiry. Hertingfordbury have found that the children enjoy this approach, which was evident when we observed Snap Science being taught in the classroom. The children were excited to conduct the experiments and a number of them commented:
“If you just had to write it, it wouldn’t be as fun as having the equipment to do the experiment.”
“I like it with the equipment and that helps us to take it all in.”

Whilst at the school we also talked to teachers, Lorraine Hemmens and Kate Atkinson, about how the Snap Science Teaching Frameworks have improved their lesson planning and their assessment of the children. They said:
“I love using it… as soon as you approach a topic you have the knowledge, and you feel so supported.” Lorraine
“It very much focuses on activity based lessons, so a lot of the assessment is through questioning which is fantastic.” Kate
